Garfield's Silent Applause

(silent) round of applause for Jon IT'S TIME TO GET UP, GARFIELD! EXCELLENT, JON! YOU'VE NEVER SLEPT BETTER! Z “Z” is the Russian nationalist symbol of conquest. With what’s going on in the Ukraine this is incredibly insensitive and should be taken down

Garfield lies curled up asleep in a box while Jon tries to wake him, then silently applauds after Garfield responds with a single “Z.” The joke comes from the Russian nationalist “Z” symbol, making the otherwise harmless Garfield comic politically insensitive in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It is shared as an ironic reaction to a meme or image that accidentally uses a controversial symbol.
