Palestinian Asuka or Israeli Rei

Text on the meme

SALEM IS THE CAPITAL OF PALESTINE القدس عاصمة فلسطين JERUSALEM is the CAPITAL of ISRAEL PALESTINIAN ASUKA OR ISRAELI REI WHO DO YOU AGREE WITH ?

What it means

A split-panel political meme shows Asuka Langley wearing a keffiyeh in front of a Palestinian image of Jerusalem, contrasted with Rei Ayanami beside an Israeli image of Jerusalem. It asks whether the viewer agrees with “Palestinian Asuka” or “Israeli Rei,” humorously combining the Israel–Palestine dispute with Evangelion character identification. It is used as an absurdly provocative reaction to political arguments and debates over Jerusalem’s status.
