Cox–Zucker Machine Collaboration Joke
Cox–Zucker machine The Cox–Zucker machine is an algorithm created by David A. Cox and Steven Zucker. happy that we're raising awareness but you can't make a post about this without mentioning that they collaborated for the sole reason of combining their last names like this Society in 2021: "A few weeks after we met, we realized that we had to write a joint paper because the combination of our last names, in the usual alphabetical order, is remarkably obscene."[3]
A screenshot of a Wikipedia page about the Cox–Zucker machine is followed by social media posts joking that mathematicians David A. Cox and Steven Zucker collaborated partly because their surnames form an obscene-sounding combination. The punchline is the accidental innuendo in the alphabetical pairing of their names, making this useful as a reaction to amusing scientific or academic coincidences.
