Global Variables in Architecture Hell
It always been said, that you should never use global-variables So when you hear someone say "never" in programming, it almost universally is a short way of saying, "look this is a really really bad idea in pretty much every common and uncommon case. The exceptions are so exceptional that it's not even worth diving into..." When you are that deep in the pits of architecture hell and you look at a problem and go, "the only way I see to solve this is with a global variable".. That is when you define your destiny. That is when you leave childhood. When you stop believing in santa clause. When you realize that your mentors have been lying to you for years!... Years later, as you're training the next generation of programmers, you will see one of them abusing global variables. Using them incorrectly. You will lay down a firm hand and say, "You should never use global variables! Fix this and don't do it again!" You'll stare hollowly off into space... remembering that day you lost your own innocence. You will spare these young programmers. They aren't ready for the whole truth yet....
EN: The post is a dark joke about global variables in programming. The author first repeats the common rule that they should never be used, then describes the moment when architectural desperation forces someone to break that rule. Later, the programmer becomes a mentor and passes the same lie on to the next generation because they are not ready to learn the whole truth.
