Hilbert and Gödel Following the Cat
David Hilbert Kurt Gödel
Two workers in orange uniforms stretch across the ground in the top panel, labeled “David Hilbert.” Below, a cat walks across wet concrete, leaving a trail of paw prints, labeled “Kurt Gödel.” The joke compares Hilbert’s attempt to reach a goal with Gödel effortlessly following an already established path, referencing their famous roles in mathematical logic and the incompleteness theorems.
