What it means

A commentator in a black outfit and cap delivers a sarcastic monologue about Bashar al-Assad being convicted of war crimes in Syria but avoiding punishment because he is in Russia. Insets show Assad and Putin lighting a candle, Syrian supporters, Netanyahu and Mohammed bin Salman, soldiers, Ronald Reagan, and Saddam Hussein. The joke mocks geopolitical double standards and nostalgia for dictators, while Rami Kazour’s patriotic Syrian anthem “Allah, Syria and Bashar” plays underneath, making the commentary more absurd and politically provocative.

Speech

Breaking news, Syria has found Assad guilty of war crimes and sentenced him to death. Unfortunately for them, Assad is in Russia right now. And when asked, he said he has no plans to go back to Syria anytime soon. Which basically means our boy Assad beat the case. Don't act surprised that I'm an Assad loyalist. I was the one pitching the agency that was used back this party, Syria, as a counterbalance to Israeli and Saudi power in the region. Now Syria is ran by a former terrorist with Assad backing. That's great. But what, he let Israel nap the golden heights like a week after he took power? That seems convenient. I miss when the American government appreciated a good, honest dictator. Those were simpler times. I still miss you, Saddam.
