Colonization Comparison Meme

Spanish colonization Portuguese colonization British colonization French colonization United States colonization Belgian colonization

A six-panel cartoon compares Spanish, Portuguese, British, French, United States, and Belgian colonization. Spanish colonization is depicted as a romantic encounter, while the others show a masked soldier standing over a pile of bodies beneath the corresponding national flag. The joke is a dark, historically simplified contrast between Spain’s colonial image and the violence associated with other colonial powers; the video remains visually static while music plays, making it useful as an ironic reaction to debates about colonialism.
