Plastic Pebbles That Float
Pyroclastics are a different type, these are pieces of plastic that have been burnt (through waste incineration or beach fires) and then weathered by the ocean. They look almost identical to natural gray or black pebbles, making them very hard to spot unless you notice they float or feel slightly "off." (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f)
A geology post explains that burned plastic waste can be weathered by the ocean into pebble-like pieces called pyroplastics. The images show several plastic-derived rocks, a trash-covered beach, and ordinary black pebbles for comparison. The joke is the unsettling realization that something resembling a natural stone may actually be melted plastic pollution.
