Growing Up in Bulgaria
Growing up in Bulgaria, my parents used to tell me that if I don't finish my plate, the gypsy kid would be stronger than me in a fight. I find this inspiring.
A social media post describes a Bulgarian childhood superstition in which parents threatened that a Roma child would become stronger in a fight if the speaker did not finish their food. The punchline is the speaker’s absurdly positive interpretation of a prejudiced and intimidating childhood threat, treating it as motivation.
