Chickens Are Getting Fatter

JUST HOW BIG ARE TODAY'S CHICKENS? Average weight of chicken breeds at 56 days old cocks are getting fatter 1957 905g 1978 1,808g 2005 4,202g

A comparison shows chickens from 1957, 1978, and 2005 growing dramatically larger, with their average weights increasing from 905g to 4,202g at 56 days old. The joke comes from the phrase “cocks are getting fatter,” which humorously uses the double meaning of “cocks” to make a poultry statistic sound suggestive.
