A mustached man speaks directly to the camera while historical and illustrative images of Mongolian horsemen, warriors, the Mongolian flag, a vast grassland, and Genghis Khan appear above him. The joke escalates the familiar contrast between white boys obsessed with Japan or China by presenting Mongolia as the ultimate obsession, delivered with mock-epic admiration for steppe warfare, horses, bows, and the “eternal blue sky.” The narration is accompanied by dramatic music, making the absurd historical romanticism sound like a grand inspirational speech. White boy obsessed with Japan versus white boy obsessed with China is one of the most important distinctions of the 21st century. I think you are missing a critical third type of white boy, the one obsessed with Mongolia. There was a white boy who was so obsessed with Mongolia, who larped so hard as Genghis Khan that he literally became a step warlord and slaughtered thousands of communist soldiers establishing the last Khanate in history. That's the kind of passion a sensitive young white boy can have for Mongolia. Don't get me wrong, there is much to appreciate about Japan and China, but at the end of the day, some of us yearn for the horse in the bow to ride like thunder out of the step and crash like lightning upon the civilized world. The eternal blue sky calls to us with promises of a simpler but more fulfilling life.
