Mormon Cricket Sad Tale
Sad tale
A person examines an old hummingbird feeder lying in dry scrubland, showing its flower-shaped lid, sugar residue, and a dead Mormon cricket trapped inside. The narration imagines that the cricket crawled in as a newborn, lived its entire life feeding on the sugar, and eventually died when the food ran out, turning an ordinary object into a disturbing and tragically absurd story. So we're out here getting moss for a terrarium and I found this when I first started doing honeybees before I did a bigger feeder I used this hummingbird feeder to feed sugar to the honeybees So you see that dead Mormon cricket in there? When I picked this up I Realized how in the hell did he get in there? And then it hit me This is kind of a sad story So this Mormon cricket crawled in through one of these holes when he was small enough when he was a newborn and he spent his entire life in there eating the little bit of sugar. This was probably a quarter of the way full of sugar and he grew up in there and spent his entire life inside this bottle until it ran out of food. He's long dead but that's a horrifying story that's sad. Is that sad? Depressing. It is. Holy shit.
