Sisyphus and the Infinite Hotel
Sisyphus is rolling a boulder towards the Grand Hilbert Hotel. The hotel has an infinite number of rooms, but they are all full, so they may not be able to accommodate him or his boulder. If you choose to divert him, his boulder will destroy the Ship of Theseus. But the ship has had all of its constituent parts replaced, so it may not actually be the same ship. Is Sisyphus happy? THE GRAND HILBERT HOTEL
Sisyphus rolls his boulder toward the Grand Hilbert Hotel, an infinite hotel whose rooms are all occupied, while an alternate path leads to the Ship of Theseus. The joke combines the myth of Sisyphus with Hilbert’s paradox of the infinite hotel and the philosophical question of whether a fully replaced ship remains the same ship. It is used as an absurd intellectual reaction to situations involving overcomplicated logic, existential dilemmas, or impossible choices.
