Always Operate With Layers of Irony

Text on the meme

Always operate with layers of irony and satire, they can never know the real you.

What it means

A serious black-and-white close-up of Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman from American Psycho, with text advising the viewer to hide behind layers of irony and satire. The joke is that extreme irony becomes a mask, making it impossible for others to tell what the person genuinely thinks; it is used as a reaction about being emotionally unreadable or constantly joking.
