Americans and Europeans at 21

Text on the meme

Americans at 21 getting to drink Europeans at 21 giving up alcohol

What it means

A two-panel scene from the anime film Your Name shows Taki looking surprised at the idea of Americans being allowed to drink at 21, while Mitsuha looks equally surprised as Europeans give up alcohol at that age. The joke contrasts American drinking-age culture with the stereotype that Europeans drink freely from a young age, then quit or lose interest by 21. It is used as a reaction to cultural differences and alcohol-related age comparisons.
