What it means

Patrick Bateman from American Psycho stares blankly while a greentext story describes carrying a concealed weapon, stopping a mass shooting, and then being charged with murdering a federal agent. The joke is the absurdly unlucky consequence: doing something heroic still leads to prosecution, making this useful as a reaction to situations where a good deed backfires.
