Post-Irony Fan vs MLG Enjoyer

Text on the meme

Average 2019-Present “Post-Irony Era” Fan Average 2013-2017 “MLG Era” Enjoyer

What it means

A split-screen comparison contrasts a blurry young man in a red jacket, labeled as an average 2019–present post-irony fan, with a heavily edited grayscale Chad-style MLG character from 2013–2017 wearing pixel sunglasses, a hat, gold chains, and holding gaming gear. After a brief blackout, the clip switches to chaotic first-person shooter gameplay with explosions and a muscular gamer at his computer. The joke nostalgically presents the old MLG era as dramatically cooler and more intense than modern post-irony culture, amplified by the energetic dubstep track “Holdin' On (Skrillex & Nero Remix)” by Monsta.
