The Filter Picks Your Story

Text on the meme

This filter is supposed to show you the story you fit into CINDERELLA 12 YEARS A SLAVE A TRUE STORY OF BETRAYAL, KIDNAP AND SLAVERY

What it means

A woman poses as a filter first places her in the cheerful Cinderella story, then the clip abruptly cuts to a smiling man dancing while the overlay changes to 12 Years a Slave. The joke is the dark, unexpected mismatch between the playful filter premise and the grim historical film reference, making it a reaction to feeling that life has taken a much harsher turn than expected. The video uses Mack David’s jaunty musical number “Where Did I Put That Thing/Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo,” whose cheerful Disney mood makes the sudden punchline even more absurd.
