Cats Then Cats Now

Text on the meme

Cats then: Cats now: I have fallen

What it means

The meme contrasts dignified, artistic cats from the past with a modern cat lying helplessly on its back and saying “I have fallen.” The joke exaggerates the idea that cats have declined from noble creatures into clumsy, ridiculous pets, making it useful as a humorous reaction to failure or embarrassment.
