Nietzsche and God Switch Places
OLIVER QUEEN 1989–2019 1900 God Nietzsche 1901 Nietzsche God
A suited man poses beside Oliver Queen’s gravestone in two nearly identical panels. In 1900, Nietzsche is labeled beside the grave while God is labeled on the gravestone; in 1901, the labels switch, jokingly referencing Nietzsche’s famous declaration that “God is dead.” It is used as an ironic reaction to philosophical or religious arguments.
