Qing Dynasty Wants Opium Banned
HONG XIUQUAN, SELF DECLARED BROTHER OF JESUS CHRIST, LEADING A RELIGIOUS UPRISING AGAINST HIS SATANIC CHINESE OVERLORDS THE QING DYNASTY, WHO JUST WANTS THE BRITISH TO STOP SELLING THEIR CITIZENS OPIUM
A humorous two-panel historical comparison shows an ornate Chinese opera-style figure representing Hong Xiuquan and a cat-like figure representing the Qing Dynasty at a lavish dining table. The joke contrasts Hong Xiuquan’s extreme religious rebellion with the Qing Dynasty’s comparatively reasonable wish for the British to stop selling opium to Chinese citizens. It is used as an ironic reaction to situations where a supposedly villainous side has one surprisingly justified complaint.
