Greenland on globes Greenland on maps

What it means

A four-panel comparison shows a cute cartoon skeleton representing Greenland on globes and a muscular anatomical skeleton representing Greenland on maps. The joke exaggerates the difference between Greenland’s rounded, recognizable appearance on globes and its distorted, huge shape on flat maps, especially Mercator-style maps. It is sent as a humorous geography reaction about map distortion.
