Kitten in Jail for Racism

Text on the meme

in jail for racism

What it means

A tiny orange-and-white kitten is behind the bars of a cage, squirming, stretching, and pawing at the front while a black-and-white kitten sits behind it. The caption jokingly frames the kitten’s restless behavior as being imprisoned for racism, creating an absurd contrast with the innocent animals. Frakkur’s “Ammælisstrákur,” an eerie experimental ambient/electronic piece with delicate glockenspiel- and marimba-like tones, makes the scene feel mock-serious and melodramatic, amplifying the joke as a reaction to an absurd or suspicious situation.
