Sauron peers through the Palantír while Pippin looks into it from Middle-earth. The joke imagines Sauron discovering the hobbit custom of “elevenses” and reacting with bewilderment instead of finding a dark secret. It is used as a reaction to confusing or unexpectedly mundane information.
