Devil Taking Jesus Somewhere
devil taking jesus somewhere missal, france ca. 1470–75
A medieval illustration shows a black, bird-like devil carrying Jesus through a landscape. The joke comes from treating a religious image as if the devil were casually taking Jesus somewhere, making the dramatic scene sound like an ordinary errand. It is used as an absurd reaction image for being dragged into an unexpected situation. EN: A medieval illustration shows a black, bird-like devil carrying Jesus through a landscape.
