roland barthes death of the author Roland Barthes / Cause of death Traffic collision

A Google search for “roland barthes death of the author” displays Roland Barthes’s supposed cause of death as “Traffic collision.” The joke takes the literary theory phrase “the death of the author” literally, as if the author himself had died in a traffic accident, making it a reaction to overly literal interpretations or dark academic humor.
