Think Before Using Emoticons
THINK BEFORE USING EMOTICONS Without emoticon Good evening everyone With emoticon Good evening everyone :D Readers Perception of you
A comparison shows the same greeting written without and with a cheerful emoticon. The plain message makes the sender seem like a shadowy, detached person, while “:D” makes readers imagine an enthusiastic anime girl at a computer. It is used as a humorous reaction to how punctuation and emoticons change perceived tone.
