Project MKUltra (or MK-Ultra) was the code name of an illegal human experimentation program designed and undertaken by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The experiments were intended to develop procedures and identify drugs such as LSD that could be used in interrogations to weaken individuals and force confessions through brainwashing and psychological torture. MKUltra used numerous methods to manipulate its subjects' mental states and brain functions, such as the covert administration of high doses of psychoactive drugs (especially LSD) and other chemicals, electroshocks, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, isolation, and verbal and sexual abuse, in addition to other forms of torture. A rapid, unsettling montage begins with someone cutting open an avocado, then flashes through an MKUltra Wikipedia page, a jagged line, a black-and-white distressed man, a dark circular device, a masked prisoner in orange, and the KUBARK interrogation manual before cutting to black. The joke links an ordinary avocado-opening clip to increasingly conspiratorial imagery about CIA mind control and interrogation, making it a reaction for situations that suddenly feel psychologically manipulative or horrifying. The music gives the escalating montage a dramatic, ominous feel and heightens the absurd contrast between the harmless opening and the extreme conspiracy imagery.
