Chess Pawn Square Rule Twist
NEVER line is outside position? king sticky
A chessboard demonstration explains the rule of the square for a king trying to catch a passed pawn. The clip builds a highlighted square around the pawn and king, then ends with an absurd giant chess-piece microphone and the phrase “German sticky grip” as a comedic punchline.
Never push your pawn if you don't know this simple rule. First, draw a line that ends on the promotion rank. If the king is on the left, then build the same line on the left, and connect them to form a large square. If the enemy king is inside this square, he can stop the pawn from becoming a queen. But if the king is outside, he won't have enough time to stop you. So can the king stop the pawn in this position? This is actually a trick question, because if white moves first, the king is not inside the square. But if black moves first, then use a German sticky grip.
