Trees Grow Up, Not Down
How a tree is structured is best seen graphically. A lot of the terminology relating to trees is borrowed from that of real life trees. Computer scientists, having spent their entire life in front of a computer and never gone outside, have evidently forgotten that trees are supposed to grow up, not down.
A binary tree diagram is shown with numbered nodes and Null leaves, followed by a joke claiming that computer scientists forgot real trees grow upward, not downward. The punchline mocks the inverted orientation of computer science tree diagrams and is used as a humorous reaction to confusing tree terminology or upside-down visualizations.
