Female Developer’s First Day
When you get hired as a female software developer: Good morning everybody I have some exciting news today I understand you have a lot of experience I've been coding for two years So Natalie it's my understanding that you're going to be doing Natalie just so you know as a back end developer I am aware of that thank you between Java and JavaScript I know that might sound confusing
A split-screen video shows several male coworkers interviewing Natalie, a newly hired female senior software developer. They repeatedly explain basic programming concepts to her and confuse Java with JavaScript, despite her having more experience. The joke mocks sexism and condescending assumptions about women in tech.
Good morning everybody. I have some exciting news today. We have a new senior developer joining our team. Natalie, would you like to introduce yourself? Of course. Hi everyone. I'm Natalie. Happy to have you Natalie. I understand you have a lot of experience. You've been coding for eight years now. Actually nine years. Nine years? Really? That's amazing. Yep, that's why I'm a senior developer. I've been coding for two years. So if you ever need any help Natalie, just ask. Yeah, and I've been coding for almost a year, so same. If you have any questions Natalie, just feel free to ask. Okay, thank you. So Natalie, it's my understanding that you're going to be doing more backend development. Is that correct? Yes. I mean, I've also done a lot of front end development, but 90% of the time I'm a backend developer, so that's what I'll be doing. Natalie, so just so you know, as a backend developer, you're not going to be doing any UI development. Right. Yeah, that is for front end. Yeah, backend is more for a service aside computations or business logic? I am aware of that, thank you. Well that's great, and Natalie I saw in your resume you have a lot of experience with Java? Yeah, I've worked a lot with Java, but I prefer Kotlin. Oh, and Natalie, you'll come to learn that there's a big difference between Java and JavaScript. You see, Java is for the front end while JavaScript is for the back end. You see Natalie, these are two different languages. I know that might sound confusing.
