Self-Driving Car Salt Circle
yesterday for April Fool’s my workplace had a short training article on recognizing computer-generated faces from real ones and one of the tricks mentioned was “count the teeth” and I just wanted to say that it’s both ironic and kind of horrifying how society has unwittingly cycled right back to IF YE MEET A MAN ON THE ROAD, COUNT HIS FINGERS LEST YE DEAL UNKNOWING WITH A FAE Where’s that image with the self driving car that is trapped in a salt circle made of “do not cross” symbols that its software won’t let it disobey
A screenshot of a social media thread discusses detecting AI-generated faces by counting teeth, comparing modern artificial intelligence to old folklore about counting a stranger’s fingers to avoid a fae. A reply asks for an image of a self-driving car trapped inside a salt circle made from “do not cross” symbols, followed by a photo of a car surrounded by painted lines and a person standing nearby. The joke is a humorous comparison between supernatural rules and literal software restrictions, used as an absurd reaction to AI fears and overly rigid autonomous systems.
