Irena Dworakowska Names Dziwne Ono
Dziwneono Article Talk From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Dziwneono (subfamily: Typhlocybinae) is a genus of Australian leafhoppers, with more than ten undescribed species. It's been described in 1972 by Polish entomologist Irena Dworakowska. The genus name is a biological nomenclature curiosity. "Dziwne ono" is Polish for "it is strange". BORING ENTOMOLOGISTS: To name my newly discovered taxonomic rank, I'll choose a latin word describing a characteristic shared by all of the organisms belonging to this rank. A fake-looking Wikipedia screenshot explains the leafhopper genus Dziwneono, named by Polish entomologist Irena Dworakowska. The joke contrasts a boring taxonomist who would choose a practical Latin name with Dworakowska naming the genus after the Polish phrase “it is strange,” followed by an exaggerated “Boże, jakie dziwne XDDD” reaction. It is used as an absurd reaction to unexpectedly strange scientific names or overly creative classification.
