OSS Fame & Riches I let people put out cigarettes on my naked skin. I spend decades of my free time maintaining a project used by thousands of codebases without ever getting paid or recognized for my effort. The only way my name becomes known is if a malicious actor infiltrates my project to insert a backdoor, in which case the whole world crashes down on me. You should get some help.
A masked, injured figure represents an open-source maintainer who spends years supporting widely used software without pay or recognition. A malicious backdoor incident is the only thing that makes the maintainer famous, while the consequences affect everyone. The joke is a sarcastic reaction to the thankless labor and catastrophic risks of open-source maintenance.
