Deadnaming Cleanup Nobody Does
[Meta] Remove deadnaming in the source code and git blame history Many instances of deadnaming are still pervasive in copyright headers, old git commits, etc. Git provides a .mailmap file, that helps handle multiple names and emails as belonging to the same user, this can be use to clean up Git blame s for the old commits. Copyright headers and code comments will need updating, to remove Hei's/lay's/etc old names. Perhaps not a critical need, but I've always found it personally troublesome that these were never updated, even after years. if you're willing to submit a PR with the changes, it'll be much appreciated I'll go about it, soon, if no one gets there before I do.
A dark-themed GitHub issue screenshot shows a proposed cleanup of deadnames in source-code copyright headers, old commits, and git blame history. Another user offers to submit a pull request, and the original commenter says they will do it soon if nobody else gets there first. The joke is the familiar open-source situation where a seemingly small maintenance task turns into a public issue and an awkward race to volunteer.
