Boss Explains Why You Won’t Get a Raise
POV you ask for a raise and your boss replies honestly instead of simply paying you what you're worth what we're gonna do is be okay with that time and real monies even though they're incredibly less efficient what we may do is take your work and spread it across your previous team and we'll sit here looking at each other like when all we had to do was pay you what you were worth in the first place but god we can't do that right
A woman speaks directly to the camera in an office while explaining what happens when an employee asks for a raise or leaves for a better-paying job. The joke is a sarcastic critique of companies that refuse to pay experienced workers fairly, then spend more replacing them or overloading the remaining team.
Instead of simply paying you what you're worth, when you decide to leave us for a higher paying job, what we're going to do is be okay with that and we're going to turn around and we are going to backfill you for three X the cost of your salary and effort, time and real monies. And we are going to backfill you with someone who has way less experience because they're cheaper even though they're incredibly less efficient putting a huge drag on the organization and that's if we even decide to backfill you. What we may do is take your work and spread it across your previous team, burning all of them out, then they will leave and we'll sit here looking at each other like what the hell happened and we'll blame the environment, politics, Gen Z of course when all we had to do was pay you what you were worth in the first place. That's it. Equity. But God, we can't do that, right? That's no fun.
