Wittgenstein and Sexual Meaning
the October Revolution! The logic is the same as that of a native American tribe whose members have discovered that all dreams have some hidden sexual meaning — all except the overtly sexu for another meaning. (In his recently discovered secret diaries, Wittgenstein reports that, while masturbating at the Front during World War I, he was thinking about mathematical problems.) And it is also the same in relation with so-called sex: it also needs some phantasmatic screen. Any contact with a real, flesh-and-blood other, any sexual pleasure that we find in touching another human being, is not something evident, but something inherently traumatic, and can be sustained only the subject’s fantasy frame.
A photographed page from a philosophical or psychoanalytic text discusses dreams, sex, fantasy, and Wittgenstein’s alleged wartime thoughts about mathematics. Bright colored marker-like blocks obscure parts of the passage, creating an absurd visual juxtaposition with the intensely intellectual and sexual text. It works as a reaction image for overthinking, bizarre academic quotations, or unexpectedly explicit philosophy.
