Gen Z Emoji Commit Messages
How to get GenZ developers to stop using emojis in commit messages and PR titles? I am a senior developer and tech lead at a software company. Recently, we hired some fresh graduates who are very talented and enthusiastic, but they have a habit of using emojis in their commit messages. For example, they would write something like: git commit -m " 🛠️Fixed bug 🐞 in login function 😎 "
A Reddit post shows a senior developer complaining about fresh graduates using emojis in Git commit messages. The example decorates “Fixed bug in login function” with tool, ladybug, and sunglasses emojis, poking fun at modern developer communication and generational workplace differences. People send this as a reaction to overly enthusiastic, unprofessional, or overly stylized coding messages.
