Tech Genius With a Massive Ego
There is a very specific type of guy you meet in tech sometimes and he fits that type to a t: someone who's an expert in some narrow area, higher than average intelligence yet still has an enormous ego and is emotionally stuck in his late teens. I've worked with a few guys like this and the pattern is always the same: he gets hired by impressing the boss by his knowledge and credentials, walks in, immediately shits on everything and declares that we are now going to rewrite everything in his pet language. He only does the work that he wants to do and believes that certain types of work are beneath him. When after a while it turns out that his "innovations" are an unmitigated disaster and he's incapable of working with anyone, he quits with some explanation that makes him look like a misunderstood genius. The sad thing is, those guys are usually legitimately smart.
A 4chan-style text post describes a technically brilliant but arrogant developer who joins a team, criticizes everything, insists on rewriting the project in his preferred programming language, and eventually leaves after his innovations fail. The joke is the painfully familiar stereotype of the gifted engineer whose real expertise is undermined by immaturity, ego, and inability to collaborate. It is shared as a reaction to difficult coworkers, overconfident programmers, and “10x engineer” behavior.
