Plato Invents the Projector
I love Plato's allegory of the cave, because he's so clearly searching for television as an example, but it won't be invented for thousands of years, so he has to basically invent the concept of a projector (light source + shadow puppets) just for his hypothetical to work.
A humorous reinterpretation of Plato’s allegory of the cave imagines Plato desperately trying to describe television before it exists, effectively inventing the concept of a projector using light and shadow puppets. The joke comes from treating an ancient philosophical thought experiment as an early attempt to explain modern technology, making the allegory feel absurdly overengineered. It is used as a reaction to clever but anachronistic theories about historical ideas.
