What Happens With a Really Long Tongue
So if you have a REALLY long tongue.... two things tend to happen. 1. You're gonna have a pretty thick neck to contain it all 2. The muscles that power the tongue will go down the neck into the upper chest. Usually anchoring on the breastbone. In animals with ridiculous tongues, this whole structure (called the hyolingual apparatus) can get really large, elaborate and wrapped up around the upper chest.
An anatomical illustration shows how an extremely long tongue is supported inside an animal's neck and upper chest. The joke is the exaggeratedly complicated internal anatomy required to contain a ridiculous tongue, making it useful as a reaction to overengineering or unexpectedly elaborate explanations.
