Ancient Chinese Business Cards
The business cards existed already in Han, called '谒' made of wood. Later known as '刺'. In Tang and Song, called '门状' & '手本', evolved into paper. Ming & Qing called '名刺' & '名帖'. They are used for self-introduction, pretty much like today! (pic is a Qing ivory card case!)
Two men in traditional Chinese clothing appear to be examining or exchanging small cards. The accompanying post explains that business cards have existed in China for centuries under different names and materials. The joke comes from treating an ancient ivory card case as an unexpectedly early version of the modern business card.
