Senior Engineers as Single Points of Failure
Many "senior" engineers are just single-points-of-failure in disguise that make teams worse and aren't truly operating at a higher level. Anybody can stay on a team for a long time and become important by sucking up a bunch of institutional knowledge. The only skill required there is existing.
A LinkedIn post criticizes senior engineers who appear indispensable only because they hoard institutional knowledge. The joke is that longevity and dependency are mistaken for genuine technical leadership, making this useful as a reaction to workplace gatekeeping and overpraised developers.
