Better Than You Hiring Advice

For a new startup founder doing their first round of hiring for non-technical roles what’s the number 1 piece of advice you would give? Any favorite resources on expediting the process of getting better at hiring/interviewing? Do the job a bit and then ask "Tell me about a time where..." style questions for things you struggle with. If the answers surprise you and teach you, chances are they are much better than you.

A Twitter exchange shows a startup founder asking for advice on hiring for non-technical roles. The response recommends doing the job briefly and then asking candidates about situations the interviewer personally struggles with. The joke is that candidates who give surprising, educational answers are probably much better than the interviewer.
