University Age Program Fails
WHEN I TOOK THE HELM FIVE YEARS AGO, OUR UNIVERSITY WAS 213 YEARS OLD—THE SECOND OLDEST IN THE STATE, JUST BEHIND OUR 215 YEAR OLD RIVAL. UNDER MY LEADERSHIP, WE'VE FUNDED AN INTENSIVE PROGRAM TO INCREASE OUR AGE TO 218, OVERTAKING OUR RIVAL BY 3. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVE TERRIBLE NEWS.
A stick-figure university leader speaks at a podium to an audience. He proudly explains that funding increased the university’s age to 218, surpassing its 215-year-old rival, then announces terrible news. The punchline is absurd bureaucratic logic: the university has somehow been made older through a program, only for an unseen problem to undermine the achievement.
